Building on our position in traditional markets, we have innovated and invested in developing high-performance coatings and processes for new industries, technologies and customers. Our range of electroless nickel coatings, for example, meet a wide range of technical needs for specific hardness, corrosion resistance and low-friction requirements. They also make it possible to plate non-metallic substrates such as glass and ceramics.
More recently, we have commissioned a new facility dedicated to the needs of the aerospace and defence sectors – covering a wide range of sulphuric and hard anodized treatments.
To support this customer base, we have added AS9100 quality certification to our existing ISO 9000 accreditation, and have signed up to the SC21 ‘Supply Chains for the 21st Century’ initiative.
We built our industry-leading reputation on the quality, response and technical excellence of our electroplating services. At the core of our traditional business is the gold and silver plating of precision strip and finished components on a variety of substrates for the pressworking sector. Today we are a dominant player in this sector, supplying manufacturers in the UK and overseas with barrel, rack and reel-to-reel strip plated products.
Frost can provide overall and selectively plated coatings in gold, silver, bright tin, matt tin, nickel and copper on a wide variety of substrates to give enhanced electrical properties and solderability.
Whatever the substrate, coating, component size, and production volume of specification, we work closely with our customers to provide the most cost-effective solution.
Our electroplated coatings are complemented by a wide range of electroless nickel, anodising, passivating, gold immersion and chromate conversion coatings.
Anodising is an electrolytic process that produces a tough and corrosion resistant oxide finish on aluminium and titanium. The coating can also be coloured to produce a decorative finish.
At Frost we have invested in a high-technology production capability offering a range of sulphuric acid and hard anodised finishes to meet the demanding technical requirements of industries such as aerospace, defence, space and precision engineering.
Coatings are available to meet all kinds of decorative, corrosion protection, hardness, wear resistance, low friction, anti-galling and chemical resistance requirements.
Anodised coatings are complimented by a range of sealing methods. At Frost we are aware of the impending REACH directive and as such can offer fully compliant alternatives to the traditional d-chromate / duplex seals, these being Nickel Acetate, Hot DI water, PTFE & our very own Trivalent Seal process. All of which can be combined with dyed coatings. We also offer REACH & RoHS compliant conversion coatings.
We are happy to work with customers to develop bespoke solutions for specific requirements and will invest in new plant to support this, if it leads to ongoing business.
With electroless nickel we can plate onto both metallic and non-metallic substrates (using a nickel boron coating) including ceramics and glass. Processes can be tailored to produce stable, corrosion-resistant and chemically resistant surfaces with hardnesses up to 1000Hv. Electroless nickel can produce uniform coating thicknesses in recesses and blind holes.
We have also developed coatings to meet the requirements of customers with applications that have to comply with RoHS regulations. We can also finish electroless nickel and nickel boron coatings with immersion gold to give a thin gold layer to aid solderability and reduce contact resistance.
